Ronda Rousey Breaks Down on Ellen Discussing UFC Upset: “I Was Thinking About Killing Myself”

“I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself. In that exact second, I’m like I’m nothing. What do I do anymore?”

We all know that Ronda Rousey got a ton of flack after losing the big UFC fight against Holly Holm, but few are aware of how it actually affected her mentally. Rousey may have a tough-girl exterior, but she unveiled some raw emotion on Ellen as she admitted publicly for the first time that she was actually having suicidal thoughts after the fight.

As she sat in the hospital room, she thought to herself, “What am I anymore if I’m not this?”

“I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself,” says Rousey. “In that exact second, I’m like I’m nothing. What do I do anymore?”

 

But the all-star fighter refuses to let that get her down, in more ways than one. She realizes that maybe her loss was designed to be used for a different, higher purpose.
[epiphany] “Maybe just winning all the time isn’t what’s best for everybody,” she admitted. Rousey hopes that others may have something to gain from watching her pick herself up off the floor and come back stronger.

“I really do believe I’m still undefeated because being defeated is a choice,” she shared. “Everybody has losses in their life, but I choose to always be undefeated.”
